About

Built to experiment. Hired to deliver.

A lab is where things get tested. Where new technology gets picked apart, understood, and either put to work or ruled out. That's been the operating model from day one — not because it sounds good, but because technology never stops changing and neither does the work.

Astralis was working with machine learning and AI long before it became a pitch deck talking point. When something new lands — a model, a framework, a capability — the instinct is the same: build something real with it, break it, understand it, and find where it genuinely improves the work. That experimentation feeds back into client projects and into the tools and systems built to run them.

Yes, there are websites. Yes, there are apps. But that framing undersells what actually gets delivered. The real question is always what a product needs to do — then building the most capable version of that, regardless of what category it falls into. Bespoke platforms, AI-integrated tools, performance-critical systems, experiences that haven't been named yet. Almost 20 years across agencies, in-house teams, and ambitious builds has produced a range that makes that possible.

Why clients choose Astralis

Agencies and organisations rarely fail because nobody “can build something.” They fail when timelines slip, shortcuts stack, or a launch works in staging but fractures under traffic. Astralis exists to close that gap: deliberate engineering, realistic planning, and communication that admits trade-offs before they become emergencies. If you have been burned by big promises and quiet delivery, you are not imagining it — and you are exactly who we design our process around.

Company story

Astralis began as an R&D shop — permission to misuse production hours chasing better rendering pipelines, newer AI primitives, or a CMS pattern that felt wrong until it suddenly felt inevitable. Over time those experiments hardened into repeatable playbooks for museums and festivals under public pressure, SaaS founders who cannot afford regressions, and marketing teams tired of patching WordPress fires every fortnight.

That origin still shows up in how bids are scoped. We prototype risk early, prefer boring infrastructure when it earns its keep, and treat performance, accessibility, and SEO as product requirements — not garnish for a retrospective blog post.

How we work with you

Engagements usually open with a short discovery: what must be true in six weeks versus what can wait, which stakeholders actually approve copy, and where your analytics already prove pain. From there we agree a thin vertical slice — something shippable that exercises auth, content, performance, or integrations that worry you most. Only then do we widen scope. You get transparent progress, async updates with loom-friendly demonstrations when useful, and direct access to the people doing the build — not a rotating cast of account managers.

Technology specialisms

Our default web stack centres on Vue and Nuxt for rich interfaces, WordPress when editorial stakeholders need mature workflows, and Node services when real-time or automation logic belongs off the browser. We have shipped WebGL and canvas interactives for exhibition floors, Spektrix-adjacent ticketing glue for cultural institutions, and AI-assisted maintenance tooling that keeps large WordPress estates honest. The through-line is not a logo on a slide — it is measurable outcomes: stable Core Web Vitals, fewer emergency deploys, and sites that internal teams can actually operate.

Where we operate

Astralis Digital Labs works from Manchester and Leeds with clients across the UK and remote partners overseas. Time zones and travel are handled pragmatically — we have installed museum hardware on site, run festival war rooms during on-sales, and shipped entirely distributed programmes when that was the faster path to quality.
